About this unit

SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol covers the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell, serve or supply alcohol. It is relevant to hospitality, packaged liquor, wineries, breweries, distilleries, alcohol delivery and other licensed environments.

The unit includes the responsible service practices needed by people working in sales, service, promotion, security and licensed venue operations.

What the training covers

  • Interpreting the responsible service requirements that apply in the local state or territory
  • Applying house policies and liquor-service procedures
  • Recognising early signs of intoxication and choosing appropriate interventions
  • Refusing service or sale appropriately, including to people affected by alcohol or other drugs
  • Supporting customers experiencing distress or who need help to leave safely
  • Using communication and conflict-resolution techniques with compliant and difficult customers
  • Understanding standard drinks, alcohol effects, harm minimisation and sources of current RSA information

Assessment requirements

Assessment takes place in a safe environment with access to relevant policies, signage and information resources. The assessor must meet the unit’s vocational competency requirements and have current industry experience.
