A structured sequence of VET training created for a need that is not covered by an existing training package, or for a regulatory purpose. A VET regulator formally recognises the course and publishes it on the National Training Register.
The endorsed component linked to each unit of competency that underpins assessment. It sets out the information needed to support assessment that is valid, reliable, flexible and fair.
Australia’s national policy for regulated qualifications in education and training. It defines ten education levels, including the certificate, diploma and graduate qualification levels used in the VET system.
Training.gov.au is the National Register of VET. It contains authoritative information about Registered Training Organisations, nationally recognised training and the approved scope of each RTO.
Training that leads to vocational qualifications and credentials recognised across Australia. It is listed on the National Training Register and includes accredited courses, training package qualifications, skill sets and associated subjects.
A VET provider registered by a regulator to deliver nationally recognised training. RTOs can deliver and assess that training, issue recognised qualifications and statements of attainment, and apply for government VET funding.
The specific qualifications, skill sets, units of competency and accredited courses an RTO is registered to provide. Scope information also identifies whether the RTO can deliver and assess, or provide assessment only.
A single unit of competency or a combination of units from a training package with a volume of learning below an AQF qualification. A skill set links to a licensing or regulatory requirement, or to a defined industry need.
A statement confirming that a person has met the requirements of the units of competency identified on the statement.
A set of nationally endorsed training products that defines competencies required by occupations and industries, and how those competencies can be packaged into portable qualifications aligned with the AQF.
A collective term covering units of competency and their assessment requirements, skill sets, AQF-aligned qualifications and credit arrangements.
A specification of the standard of workplace performance required by a VET accredited course or training package. Units can be classified as core or elective within a qualification.
Education and training that gives people occupational or work-related knowledge and skills. It also includes programs that provide a foundation for later vocational study.
